Thanks to the new iOS 12 developer beta, a new icon was uncovered, which provides a hint with regards to the future of one of Apple’s products. It would seem that the next iPad Pro is not going to come with bezels or the home button if the icon is any indication. Then again, this might just be a case of fans reading too much into something that could end up being nothing.
Rumors have been swirling with regards to the upcoming update to the iPad Pro this year. Among the supposed changes is the absence of the home button and the addition of Face ID, 9to5Mac reports. An icon that came with the iOS 12 developer beta 5 seems to confirm this.
The icon in question is part of the UI that applies to battery usage. It shows an iPad with much thinner bezels and no home button. Compared to the old icon before the iOS 12 update with the same function, the difference is quite stark.
With regards to the possible meaning behind this change, it wouldn’t be the first time that sleuths have uncovered future changes to Apple’s products in this manner. Last year, a software leak involving the HomePod also showed the eventual iPhone with thinner bezels.
On that note, it would also appear that the upcoming iPad Pro will have no notch. The icon that came with the iOS 12 indicates as much, though this is far from settled.
There’s also the matter of the 3.5mm headphone jack, which The Verge notes might not be included in the list of specs for the upcoming iPad Pro. The icon that came with the iOS 12 developer beta 5 didn’t indicate this. It’s simply an expected fact at this point, considering that Apple is going in that general direction.
