The year started with plenty of surprises, but what tech fans can count on is Apple’s familiar calendar of events that suggests the iPhone 12 lineup should be released this year. Another very likely announcement in the coming months is the use of an improved processing chip for the new premium smartphones that could be called the A14 Bionic, or simply A14.
iPhone 12 specs: How the A14 Bionic chip can improve the upcoming devices
Mobile processors are the brains of mobile devices, much like how CPUs work for laptops and other computers. This is why most of the improvements anticipated in the iPhone 12 rely on the power of the A14 chip.
Apple remains mum about its upcoming products and fans already know they cannot expect to hear anything about it until its official launch. But that does not mean the supply chain is staying silent, too. Shortly after the release of the iPhone 11 series, there were already reports pertaining to the A14 chip.
The iPhone 12 has been rumored to be Apple’s first device with 5G network compatibility. While Apple remains coy about its 5G plans, reports have it that the A14 Bionic would be incorporated with the Snapdragon X55 modem, the very component making 5G connection possible.
It is safe to assume that improved performance and speed boost are some of the highlights of the A14. But an enhanced mobile chip also comes with better GPU processing. MacWorld suggests that the iPhone 12 CPU could feature increased memory bandwidth and up to 50 percent better graphics processing to meet today’s mobile gaming demands.
In a world full of Android smartphones with as much as 8GB RAM, it is understandable why Apple fans are wishing the iPhone 12 series would deliver a major RAM upgrade. Up until the iPhone 11 Pro lineup, Apple’s RAM offering is maxed at 4GB RAM only. And if analysts got their predictions right, 2020 might be the time when tech fans finally see an iPhone with 6GB RAM.
iPhone 12 lineup, variants, release date: What to expect
Technical specifications are not the only changes being reported about the iPhone 12. Apple is also expected to release more variants this year with numerous rumors suggesting there will be two iPhone 12 models and two more iPhone 12 Pro options.
It has also been reported that there will be a slight change in the color variants with the Midnight Green slated to be replaced with Navy Blue. Unfortunately, these details will only be confirmed once the iPhone 12 series is unveiled later this year.
