Apple is expected to expand its iPhone X lineup in 2018 with at least two devices, now dubbed the iPhone X Plus and the iPhone X2. Meanwhile, the company is also rumored to launch an all-new fast charger exclusively along with the new, 2018-released iPhones.
All in all, a total of three new iPhones are rumored to be released in 2018. However, only two of these are expected to be specifically categorized as successors of the iPhone X. This report has been rumored for quite some time now.
Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has been a reliable source of iPhone-related speculations, previously reported (via MacRumors) that Apple will release two OLED-clad smartphones in 2018. These devices are going to be introduced as direct successors of the iPhone X.
According to earlier reports, the device dubbed the iPhone X2 will sport a 5.8-inch OLED screen. Meanwhile, the bigger iPhone X Plus will have a 6.5-inch OLED display. Both devices are expected to have a 4GB RAM and dual-lens rear cameras.
Both devices will support Face ID, thanks to each having its TrueDepth camera on the screen’s notch along with a more advanced A12 chipset. But Apple is also rumored to ditch some features, like an all-stainless steel frame, to bring down prices. The upcoming iPhone X 2018 lineup is expected to have aluminum chassis instead.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Apple is ditching its “S” branding tradition, thus, the rumored iPhone X2 and iPhone X Plus names. However, other reports are looking at the possibility that Apple will name the upcoming devices as iPhone XS and iPhone XS Plus.
Aside from the anticipated iPhone X 2018 lineup, Apple might also introduce all-new and exclusive smartphone accessories. Last week, the Japanese website Macotakara claimed that Apple is also working on an 18W USB-C fast charger.
This new charger with a boosted capacity is also rumored to exclusively become available to customers buying the iPhone X 2018 devices. The rumored iPhone 9, which is also likely to be released this year, is also expected to exclusively carry the fast charger.
If this turns out to be true, it is unclear whether or not Apple will never sell the fast charger separately. The same Macotakara report said that Apple has very limited supplies and manufacturers that can produce the said fast charger. So they are forced to limit its release to the new iPhone X and iPhone 2018.
However, knowing Apple, the company is more likely going to release the 18W fast charger as a standalone accessory so more customers can be enticed to purchase it. So there is a chance that the iPhone X 2018 lineup and iPhone 9 boxes come with the standard charger units.
Meanwhile, in terms of the iPhone X 2018 release date, many are expecting Apple to retain its annual schedule. This means that all new iPhones could be unveiled in September, with retail release dates set for the following couple of months.
