Like most video game companies, Electronic Arts (EA) turns to a virtual livestream event to continue the tradition of revealing major announcements despite the ongoing pandemic. A week before the EA Play Live, though, information about the next UFC simulation might have leaked online while fans continue hoping that EA has something in store about “The Sims 5.”
EA Play Live: What to expect
It is safe to assume that the main goal of EA Play Live is to remind fans of the biggest titles the video game company has in the pipeline. And, thanks to the EA Sports lineup, gaming fans could have a good idea of some of the announcements that could be made next week.
Earlier this week, Gematsu spotted a piece of potential evidence pointing to the release of “UFC 4” through a PlayStation 4 patch that was recently uploaded to the Sony servers. EA has yet to respond to the supposed leak, but this is an interesting find since EA Sports skipped 2019 to release the fourth iteration of the UFC video game sim.
The lineup of EA Sports IPs could be some of the highlights at EA Play Live, and the leak pointing to a “UFC 4” announcement is interesting for another reason. It might be a signal that another franchise would be revived this year -- “NBA Live.” EA shocked gaming fans when it also decided to let 2019 pass without a new basketball sim that was expected to be named “NBA Live 20,” although this is not the first this happened to the franchise.
Most EA fans are very likely hoping that EA Play Live would also include a surprise announcement about “The Sims 5.” Players of the life simulation series have been expecting the next game to be unveiled, especially since “The Sims 4” is going to be a 6-year-old title in September.
However, as explained in earlier reports, EA also has other good reasons not to rush the development, announcement, and launch of the next game. But EA Play Live could still include some “The Sims”-related news, especially after an earlier confirmation that more content updates for TS4 are slated to be released throughout 2020.
EA Play Live: When and how to watch
The EA Play Live was supposed to happen Thursday, June 11. But EA, like other video game companies, decided to postpone the game in consideration of “the more important conversations taking place.” The company is apparently referring to the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests that were ignited by the death of George Floyd while in police custody. EA Play Live is now scheduled on Thursday, June 18, at 4 p.m. PDT. The event will be live-streamed on EA.com.
