During the recently concluded 2017 Consumer Electronics Show, Razer performed spectacularly by drawing high levels of attention thanks to some of its most outrageous concepts. Among them is a high-end gaming laptop prototype that had three screens. Unfortunately, when the conference ended, Razer found out that two laptops of its kind were stolen.
The two laptops that were stolen are both Project Valerie models, Engadget reports, which is a concept lineup that drew significant attention during the electronics conference. They both possess the same features, parts, and performance as a high-end Razer Blade Pro. The only difference is that they also had two extra screens that would slide in and out of panels, creating what was essentially a mobile desktop.
In a Facebook post, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan expressed his disappointment about the theft. He also indicates that these actions could be considered cheating if ever the technology that made the units possible were to be used by rival companies, and that’s something that neither he nor his company will tolerate.
“At Razer, we play hard and we play fair. Our teams worked months on end to conceptualize and develop these units and we pride ourselves in pushing the envelope to deliver the latest and greatest,” Tan’s post reads. “We treat theft/larceny, and if relevant to this case, industrial espionage, very seriously – it is cheating, and cheating doesn’t sit well with us. Penalties for such crimes are grievous and anyone who would do this clearly isn’t very smart.”
As a result, the company is now offering a cash reward worth $25,000 for anyone who can provide information on the stolen products or the people that were responsible for the theft, Fortune reports. Basically, Razer, one of the biggest and most successful companies in the world just put out a bounty on the heads of the thieves. It’s practically a story out of an AAA video game.
