Burger King's latest addition to its team might surprise you during your next drive-thru visit. The fast food chain has revealed that four Auckland outlets are now completely managed by artificial intelligence.
Enhancing Customer Experience Through AI
Warmambol News reported that the innovative "conversational system" has been in a trial phase for several months. It welcomes customers and processes orders at the drive-thru speaker before guiding them to the pickup window. This technology has streamlined the ordering process and received positive customer feedback.
According to Burger King Westgate Manager Tyler Chisholm, the AI system has significantly improved order-taking efficiency, allowing for better multitasking while maintaining customer satisfaction. The platform, operated by American company Hi Auto, has already been successfully implemented in over 500 US, UK, and New Zealand restaurants.
Despite the AI system's initial success, it has limitations, as observed during interactions with the New Zealand Herald Focus Team. While the system may have struggled with complex inquiries, it excelled in politeness and accuracy, offering customers the flexibility to customize their orders.
Balancing Technology and Human Touch
Burger King emphasizes that introducing AI technology will not result in staff reductions. Hi Auto Chief Business Officer Daniel Dreymann clarified that the system aims to enhance the working environment by alleviating tedious tasks, thus increasing staff retention rates.
Dreymann highlighted that the AI system has led to a notable decrease in staff turnover, with retention rates increasing by up to 17% in establishments utilizing the technology. The customizable voice feature, including a Kiwi accent, adds a personalized touch to the customer experience.
Integrating AI into Burger King's service process boosts operational efficiency and enhances the overall customer experience. By incorporating voice recognition technology capable of understanding various accents and slang, the system ensures that orders are processed accurately and efficiently.
