In a strategic move, AMD has acquired Silo AI, enhancing its client portfolio with Rolls-Royce, Unilever, Allianz, and Philips, and solidifying its AI market leadership.
AMD Expands AI Capabilities with Silo AI Acquisition
Today, chip designer AMD announced its acquisition of Silo AI, Europe's largest private AI lab, broadening its customer base in the AI market.
Since the entire $665 million is in cash, AMD may need to take out a loan to pay for it. The partnership between AMD and AI software developer Silo should help AMD increase its market share by integrating its Instinct graphics processing units (GPUs) and other AI offerings into Silo's software.
Per WCCFTECH, the announcement caused a 3% increase in AMD stock, putting it ahead of bigger competitor NVIDIA, whose stock was up 2%.
New High-Profile Clients for AMD Post-Acquisition
Rolls-Royce, Unilever, Allianz, and Philips are just a few of the high-profile companies that this arrangement brings into AMD's customer base.
With the acquisition of Silo, an artificial intelligence software company that helps companies incorporate the technology into their operations, AMD will solidify its position in the market and generate demand for its AI chips.
Enhanced AI Capabilities with Silo AI’s Technology
Poro and Viking, two of Silo's artificial intelligence (AI) products, are LLMs that can handle several languages. The company hopes to expand its operations and model scalability by partnering with AMD, which would provide access to resources and a consistent supply of AI GPUs and other components.
Companies are shelling out millions of dollars to acquire these chips, which are currently the hottest commodity in the industry. Amidst the overall decline in the semiconductor sector caused by the coronavirus epidemic, AMD was able to rebound thanks to this demand, which sent NVIDIA's shares soaring to record highs.
Automotive, consumer electronics, healthcare, and industrial users are just a handful of the many sectors that Silo serves in the artificial intelligence market.
AMD's Strategic Expansion in the AI Market
Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, recently said that her company will be able to continue developing its open-source AI software thanks to the Silo transaction.
This year, Silo has made a number of significant announcements. The June launch of the company's Viking AI model on Google Cloud was one such event. Viking is an open-source learning management system (LMS) that supports English and all Nordic languages.
By the year's end, the acquisition will have brought Silo under AMD's Artificial Intelligence Group.
