AMD Ryzen 9 3950X was revealed at the 2019 E3 in June. At that time AMD shared that they are pushing gaming beyond the usual 8 or 12-cores and will be releasing the “best of the best" CPU and named the 3950X as the chip that they are talking about.
Dr. Lisa Su, Advanced Micro Devices’ CEO, stated that this chip would offer the highest boost frequency compared to the stack that they already have. This means that it can go up to 4.7Ghz with 72MB of cache.
According to PC World, the 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 3950X will be the fastest gaming processor in the Ryzen 3000 family and it is obviously the one with the highest core number as well. Currently, the Ryzen 3000 CPU family has recorded the highest clock speed in this new generation of chips so it is considered the best so far.
The first in the series of Ryzen 3000 processors were already released in July and it offers a 12-core processor called the Ryzen 3900X. This was released at $499 only so the ones with the higher-cores will start with the price from $500 and up.
Building the fastest chip
On building the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X, Travis Kirsch, director client product management of AMD said, “Our goal is, through special binning and other techniques to provide the best gaming experience with the more money you pay, and also the most creative performance experience.”
He added, “In the past, when you look at a high-end desktop platform, typically your frequencies fall off when you move up the stack, going forward with 3rd Gen Ryzen, you actually see it scale up, which means that your best gaming parts are also going to be your highest core count parts.”
In any case, the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X has not been officially launched in the market yet but it is already gaining so much attention for its power and what it can offer to most gamers and heavy users of computers. It is making waves and this is understandable as it is breaking records with its overclocked.
Price and release date
Meanwhile, the "World's first 16-core gaming CPU" which is the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X has been scheduled to arrive in September and it is expected to retail at $749 as per Engadget.
