The actual run of “Absentia” season 2 has already concluded, but to many fans around the world, they are just starting to watch it all through a streaming platform. To prepare the viewers, lead star Stana Katic reminds everyone there will be more psychological trials waiting for her character, former FBI special agent Emily Byrne.
All 10 episodes of “Absentia” season 2 originally aired on AXN with the finale being released last May 28. And as of Friday, June 14, the entire season has started streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
“Absentia” season 2 will pick up from a mind-boggling season 1 finale. The very last scene showed Emily suffering from a panic attack while fixing the faucet while having a vision that she killed someone. That hinted at Emily having to tackle all the unanswered questions about what really transpired while she was held captive for years.
Katic confirmed that knowing who kidnapped her did not end Emily’s struggles. “Absentia” season 2 will explore what they did to her or what she was forced to do. “The biggest question for her [in] Season 2 is what actually happened during those lost years, and she had a glimpse of a possibility at the very end of Season 1,” Katic told TV Guide. “And she needs to know if there's any proof in that glimpse. And on top of that, more importantly, she needs to know that she is safe for Flynn to be around.”
In the same interview, Katic likened the continuing story in “Absentia” season 2 as the same with the tale of Odysseus. “Much like Odysseus, there are psychological tests and trials along the way to her coming home and having dominion over her own body, her own self, of having a say in future steps with her own being — not necessarily anyone else's, but just herself,” Katic explained.
It is still unknown whether the show would continue beyond “Absentia” season 2. When asked whether she sees a “finite end” to the psychological thriller, Katic gave emphasis to their task of making sure they deliver the story well. She also added the importance of maintaining respect for the audience by making sure that the story would not be unnecessarily prolonged.
