The holiday season is right around the corner. And just like everyone else, retired professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez is also planning his gifts for his girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.
The singer-actress has been repeatedly named as one of the highest-paid stars in Hollywood. And with that status, Rodriguez realizes that he cannot simply buy expensive stuff for Lopez simply because she can most probably afford it too.
For obvious reasons, Rodriguez will not just announce what he has planned as a holiday present for Lopez. But the former MLB player told PEOPLE that being creative is key.
Rodriguez also said he is thinking about giving Lopez “something that’s handwritten, maybe a photo.” And without spoiling the surprise, he reiterated that whatever his gifts are for the singer-actress, it has to be a “heartfelt” present. “Something that resembles a memory that we’ve had together that involves our children, that involves our home because, ultimately, that’s what it’s all about,” he added.
While Rodriguez gave emphasis on giving presents out of love, he has also been extremely generous in buying gifts to Lopez. In fact, just last summer, the two sparked engagement rumors after she was seen wearing a ring topped with a sizeable piece of diamond while they were enjoying a nice day at the beach.
Rodriguez admitted in a later interview that he did give the ring to Lopez several months before the engagement rumors broke out. While he confirmed that the “Shades of Blue” alum “loved” the expensive-looking accessory, he insisted that it was a simple gift and not a sign that they are soon tying the knot.
The two had started dating in 2017, which was confirmed after walking the red carpet together at that year’s Met Gala. Then last March, it was reported that Rodriguez and Lopez had moved in together after purchasing a lavish penthouse in New York City worth $15.3 million.
