“Alita: Battle Angel” found some very dedicated fans that have been keeping the discussions going to demand a sequel. They have also garnered support from several cast members and producers, but the studio that is supposed to decide the fate of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” remains silent.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’: Is a sequel still possible?
Movie fans who fell in love with the live-action adaptation of the ‘90s cyberpunk manga series “Gunnm” by Yukito Kishiro are still looking forward to the announcement of “Alita: Battle Angel 2.” While they have yet to hear it, the possibilities in terms of if there are enough materials to plot a sequel offer a positive outlook.
Even though the future of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” has not been very clear from the beginning, there was no doubt that the movie franchise has enough material from the manga to keep the story going even for a trilogy. Jon Landau, who produced the first film alongside James Cameron, also told Cinemablend that the latter “had plotted out two additional stories” already.
The good thing is there are still dedicated fans not giving up on “Alita: Battle Angel 2.” As of this writing, a petition for the sequel is just over a hundred signatures away to hit the 149,000 mark. Cast members such as Keean Johnson and Christoph Waltz, who played Hugo and Dr. Ido, respectively, have also chimed in to support calls for the making of a sequel.
However, that is not enough the get the production of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” started. They would need to get the approval of the production studio, which now happens to be Disney. Even Salazar previously acknowledged that the merger of Disney and 20th Century Fox had made the case for the sequel quite complicated.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ cast, plot: What to expect
If “Alita: Battle Angel 2” got Disney’s stamp of approval, fans can expect a few familiar faces to return for the sequel. With many things still to uncover about her past and the explore in her future quests, Salazar’s Alita will remain the main protagonist.
The first film ended by hinting at Alita facing Desty Nova (Edward Norton) in the near future. With Alita also dominating the Motorball tournament, it appears she would be set to travel to Zalem. But it would not be a coming-of-age story anymore as she is resolved to avenge the death of Hugo.
