‘All Eyez On Me’ actor Demetrius Shipp, Jr. is set to portray Tupac Shakur in the latest biographical film about the famous rapper’s life and career in the music industry. The film recently dropped its second official teaser trailer.
According to Baltimore Sun, the newest official trailer for the upcoming biographical feature chronicling the life of iconic rapper Tupac Shakur has recently been released on his 20th death anniversary on September 13, 2016. Director Benny Boom shared the teaser on his Instagram account.
Shipp, Jr. takes on the role of Tupac, a famous rapper, actor, and record producer who rose to fame in the 1990s.Tupac’s double disc albums ‘All Eyez on Me’ and his compilation ‘Greatest Hits’ are considered one of the best selling albums in the United States. As of 2007, he has sold an estimated 75 million records worldwide.
The teaser featured Tupac in various stages of his life. The teaser opens to Tupac asking a crowd, "Police kill innocent black folk every day and Quayle's coming after me? But I'm used to people coming at me. This sh*t been happening my whole life."
According to Billboard.com, the teaser also featured the 1994 shoot-out in New York’s Quad Studios, where Tupac was shot five times. It wasn’t until 1996 that a fatal drive-by shoot-out in Las Vegas, Nevada finally took the rapper’s life.
Shipp, Jr. said that he was honored to portray Tupac on the big screen in a previous interview. According to Complex, he said, "I have to say that I'm a very passionate person, a person that’s very driven on integrity and my beliefs… I believe there's definitely a similarity there. Just getting into the character, I fell in love with who he was. It was common things that were brought together with me and him, our childhood. It was a crazy thing to be able to do it."
Joining Shipp, Jr. in the new cast include Danai Gurira as Afeni Shakur, Jamal Woolard as The Notorious B.I.G., Grace Gibson as Faith Evans, Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Stefon Washington as Puff Daddy.
‘All Eyez on Me’ is an upcoming biographical drama film based on Tupac Shakur’s life and career in music. It is directed by Benny Boom and written by Ed Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft. Principal photography commenced in Atlanta, Georgia on mid-December 2015.
