Amazon announced it will commence air delivery in Arizona using drones this year. The e-commerce giant said customers residing within the West Valley Phoenix Metro can avail themselves of Prime Air drone deliveries from the company's same-day delivery facility in Tolleson, AZ.
According to Fox Business, Amazon plans to expand its drone delivery service to more cities in the United States by next year. It hopes to add more areas so more customers can enjoy air deliveries.
Amazon Prepares to Launch Prime Air Delivery Drones in Az
The company said it aims to launch drone delivery technology for West Valley customers. As part of its preparations, it will first secure the required approvals from the Federal Aviation Administration. It will also get the needed permits from the local government to operate the drones smoothly.
The company said it is working with officials to complete all the requirements and begin the air delivery service soon. The drones will be deployed for Amazon's same-day delivery service, and everything will be in place.
End of Drone Delivery Service in California
In any case, while Amazon is working to launch its drone delivery service for Prime members in Arizona, the company shared on Monday, April 22, that it will halt its operations of the same air service in its Lockeford, California facility after two years. The e-commerce firm explained that while the service will no longer be available, customers in this area can still access other types of deliveries.
"As Amazon embarks on the national expansion of its Amazon Drone Delivery Program, we are proud to have their innovative presence in our community," Tolleson Mayor Juan F. Rodriguez said in the announcement. "By bringing this service to new communities, they're not just delivering goods; they're delivering opportunities and economic growth for all. Amazon's commitment to innovation exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit that drives our city forward."
Mayor of Phoenix, Kate Gallego, further commented, "This kind of delivery is the future, and it is exciting that it will be starting in the Phoenix Metro Area. The shift toward zero-emission package delivery will help us reduce local pollution and further cement our city as a hotbed for the innovative technology of tomorrow."
