The notch on the iPhone X is a fairly controversial even among fans of the Apple smartphone line, with many finding the feature ugly. Fortunately, there is a way to get rid of the unsightly addition, or at least to camouflage it. Using an app fittingly called Notch Remover, users will see a black bar at the very top of the screens of their iPhone X, thus rendering the notch virtually invisible when using the phone.
As The Verge notes, Apple has been asking developers to embrace the notch on the iPhone X instead of masking it. On the company’s guidelines, for example, Apple urged developers not to do anything with the display features that would either mask it or call attention to it.
“Don't mask or call special attention to key display features. Don't attempt to hide the device's rounded corners, sensor housing, or indicator for accessing the Home screen by placing black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Don't use visual adornments like brackets, bezels, shapes, or instructional text to call special attention to these areas, either,” the guidelines read.
Despite asking this of developers, however, it seems Apple couldn’t find a reason not to approve the Notch Remover, which is now available in the App Store. This is not the first app to do such a thing either as another app with similar features called Notcho caught the headlines last week, Fortune reports. It basically allows users to have several wallpapers to choose from or create their own.
Having two apps to choose from should be good for customers since the Notch Remover costs $0.99 while Notcho is free. On the other hand, Notcho does come with a watermark, which might be an issue for those who don’t like seeing it every time they use their devices. To remove it, users can cough up $1.99.
