Apple’s first event of the year is reportedly happening next month, where new devices are likely to be announced. Some of the most likely products to be announced are new mobile devices, including a new iPhone and an iPad.
Apple spring event’s rumored date
Apple’s production and launch plans appear to be undeterred amid the global supply chain issues that have affected many tech products’ availability and launch schedules. The Cupertino, California-based tech giant is still expected to host a spring launch event this year, and it is speculated to happen earlier compared to last year.
In the new edition of the Power On newsletter by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (via MacRumors), the Apple 2022 spring event is reportedly slated for Tuesday, March 8. All of Apple’s pandemic-era events have taken place virtually without in-person attendance, and that is expected to be the same setup in the spring.
Apple devices that could be announced next month
Based on the previous leaks, the two most likely devices to take center stage in the spring are the iPad Air 5 and the iPhone SE 5G, which many also call the iPhone SE 3. Both devices are expected to be upgraded with the A15 chipset, which means they could also offer 5G support.
Apple has been rumored for years to introduce a new iPhone SE with a larger display, but the latest insider reports suggest that is not happening this year. The iPhone SE 5G rumored to launch in the spring is expected to look similar to the iPhone SE (2020), which used a form factor resembling the iPhone 8. That means, despite the 5G and SoC upgrade, the upcoming phone will still sport bulky bezels and Touch ID.
The iPad Air 5 is not expected to be redesigned as well, which makes sense since Apple had just changed its appearance in 2022. In 2020, the device lineup adopted similar design features from the iPad Pro, including the removal of the physical home button. But the next iPad Air is rumored with camera enhancements as well. It is expected to launch with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera on the front and support the Center Stage feature.
There have been plenty of reports about the upcoming Mac products this year as the company completes its transition to using Apple silicon on all Mac lineups. At least one new Mac device is anticipated to launch early this year, but Gurman’s report did not specify if it would be included in the Apple spring event.
