In what will likely be a pleasant surprise to hardcore fans of the PlayStation console family, there is now a limited-edition PlayStation-themed pair of sneakers called PG2. It was designed by basketball star Paul George and is the result of the collaboration between Nike and Sony. Not only is the color scheme of the footwear reminiscent of the gaming console, it apparently even lights up and vibrates like a PS4 controller.
According to the official page of the sneakers, this is the second pair of signatures shoes that George designed. Apparently, the basketball star is also a huge fan of video games and confirms that he especially loves playing on the PlayStation.
“I just had a knack for video games,” George said. “As soon as I discovered PlayStation, I was throwing hints here and there to my dad — cutting out the clipping of a video game, cutting out the clippings of the PlayStation, leaving it on his dresser. I remember on Christmas morning, I unwrapped my gift and sure enough, it was the PS2. I've been a PlayStation guy ever since.”
As Engadget notes, the sneakers pay homage to the PlayStation family in a variety of ways. There’s the tongue with the PS logo on it, for example, and there’s also a button inside the sneakers that make it vibrate much like dual-shock controllers would.
It’s rather unfortunate that the batteries in the shoes can’t be replaced, which means that anyone who plays around with the button too much will soon wear it out. Apparently, the batteries will only last for about 150 hours, as well.
With regards to the actual price of the PG2, the sneakers will go for $110 for each pair. They are also set to hit stores on February 10th, so anyone who is interested in getting them may want to mark their calendars.
