BTS has made new history after being recognized by the Guinness for their achievement after releasing their latest album called “Map of the Soul: Persona.” It was released in April, and within just two months, the group already sold millions of copies.
According to the Guinness World Records, BTS’ most recent album is now South Korea’s bestselling album. It emphasized that it is not the “bestselling album of the year,” but it is the all-time best in Korea. This means that no other group has sold this many albums in a short time.
The EP contains seven tracks, and it was initially launched on April 12. In just a month after the release, BTS already sold 3,229,032 copies. The seven-member idol group beat the previous record-holder Kim Gun Mo, who sold 3.3 million copies in 1995.
No wonder that BTS was able to achieve this because “Map of the Soul: Persona” has topped various music charts worldwide. At the US Billboard 200 alone, it stayed at the top for a few weeks, and it was Gaon’s Album Chart’s first place for three consecutive weeks since its release.
In May, Map of the Soul: Persona’s sales went up to 3,399,302 copies so by this time, it is possible that it is nearing the 4 million copies mark. The interesting fact is that 2.6 million were sold from pre-order transactions which means there were more fans who bought the album before the set release date than when it was officially out in the market.
BTS currently on a world tour for their “Love Yourself Speak Yourself” project. The group recently completed the U.S. and European leg of their tour, and they will now perform for fans in Asian countries. They have schedules until July, and more venues are expected to be added in the coming days.
