TOP of Big Bang is on the headlines again after being suspected of receiving special treatment while serving in the army as a public service worker. He is currently stationed at the Yongsan District office and works there from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day except Sundays and Mondays.
MBC News reported that TOP whose real name is Choi Seung Hyun missed many working days so it was assumed that he is receiving special treatment from his colleagues and chief. The network’s news division, Newsdesk, alleged that they have looked into the singer’s calendar work schedule and spotted many days that he did not report to work.
It was said that they discovered that compared to the others, TOP had taken more sick leaves and he usually takes the leave of absence before or after his day offs. The news outlet listed the Big Bang member’s absences and they noted that he did not report to work for nine consecutive weekends at one point. It was also said that he usually takes a sick leave after a holiday break like the Chuseok and Memorial Day.
The absences were suspicious and even more so because in many instances TOP does not submit any medical certificate or offer explanations for his sick leaves. Commenting on this allegation by MBC’s Newsdesk, the singer said, “It was because I had a panic disorder then and I’m a bit ill.”
Newsdesk reached out to Yongsan District office for comments on the alleged special treatment being extended to the member of a popular boy band. The office denied the claims and stated that TOP is not being treated differently from his other peers just because he is a celebrity.
Meanwhile, TOP will be discharged from the army on June 27, provided that he will not be involved in any controversies before then. This is because, an offense may extend his service for a time and in fact, this already happened to him when he got involved in marijuana used rumors. The MAA extended the days of his service for the wrongdoing.
