Usually, when people say that they are in love with their bikes and have a bond with them, they just mean that they treasure their two-wheeled vehicle for its amazing features. However, Kawasaki Heavy Industries is creating a superbike equipped with artificial intelligence that can literally form a connection with its user.
Called the Emotion Generation Engine and Natural Language Dialogue System, the motorcycle maker creating an AI interface that the driver can actually interact with, Futurism reports. Think Knightrider, but for superbikes.
The AI can be spoken to like a consciousness living within the vehicle, which can also pick up on certain cues about the driver, which allows it to know if the driver is in distress. It can even anticipate the intent of the driver, which then allows it to make certain changes that would make carrying out the intent a lot easier, such as making a sharp turn.
More than that, the AI is also programmed to keep learning and evolving as the driver interacts with it, opening up the possibility of an AI that can actually become something of a friend for the owner. Since the development would depend largely on how the driver interacts with the AI in terms of commands, inputs, and even the tone, each AI installed in different superbikes will actually develop different personalities in the long-run.
The technology was developed by the cocoro SB Corp robotics lab, New Atlas reports. Based on the company’s explanations, one of the things that the bike can do is enable you to find the best routes with regards to traffic patterns. It sounds a bit farfetched compared to other things that can be done such as adjusting the suspension, but Kawasaki seems adamant that it can be done.
In terms of the best potential benefits of the technology, driver safety appears to have the most appeal. The AI can tell the driver when a car is approaching from a blind spot, for example, and even provide weather alerts.
