Once “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 airs next year, fans can expect several major changes. The show will be hosted by a new network with fewer episodes. Gina (Chelsea Peretti), who is in a love-hate relationship with many fans, is also about to exit from the series.
Thousands of fans were devastated but quickly rejoiced again when NBC picked up “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 a few days after it was canceled by Fox. However, with a new home, comes a few several changes.
Instead of the show’s typical 22-episode run per season, NBC originally ordered only 13 episodes of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6. Luckily, the network upgraded the series to 18 episodes airing in 2019.
One of the biggest changes in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 has something to do with the casting. Actress and comedian Chelsea Peretti, who plays the self-absorbed civilian administrator and personal assistant Gina Linetti, previously revealed that she will not be as attached to the show as she was in the first five seasons.
Peretti made the announcement on Instagram last October by reposting Emmy Rossum’s online statement confirming her departure from “Shameless.” It gave fans the impression that Gina will ultimately leave the show in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6.
However, series co-creator Dan Goor told Entertainment Weekly that Gina is not a hundred percent gone. Goor promised that Gina’s presence will still be felt all throughout “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6. “While I miss having her in every episode, there’s no question watching the show that she’s still a part of it,” the showrunner explained.
Before Gina loses the series regular status in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6, Goor revealed that she will be on an undercover assignment with her childhood friend and colleague Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg). The duo will be assigned to “one of New York’s swankiest locales,” said Goor, which explains their posh outfits in one of the first-look photos.
Another teaser photo shows Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) poorly impersonating Gina at the precinct. This is likely the result of a drama erupting between the two in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6.
Needless to say, their relationship is already complicated. They were secretly “smooshing booties” before they became step brothers and sisters. Then, Gina’s baby is fathered by Charles’ surprisingly handsome cousin played by Ryan Philippe. Whatever caused this drama and how they will resolve will surely be another rich source of comedy in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6.
Over the past couple of weeks, fans were treated with the latest teaser photos and trailers for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 hinting that its return is fast approaching. The comedy series returns on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 on NBC.
