China reaffirmed its commitment to open trade and investment partnerships during the China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) this week, signaling resilience amid global economic uncertainties. Speaking at a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that China will continue expanding cooperation and attracting international investors rather than engaging in confrontation.
Lin said China aims to be a “stronger magnet for global investment” by strengthening ties with international partners. His remarks come as the CICPE unfolds in Hainan province, showcasing high-end global consumer goods and underlining China’s growing role as a hub for international commerce. The expo serves as a platform for multinational brands to access the Chinese market, one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing consumer bases.
Facing rising global tensions and supply chain shifts, China has repeatedly promoted its vision of multilateralism and economic openness. Lin highlighted that the country will stay committed to “joining hands instead of throwing punches,” signaling a diplomatic approach to international trade relations.
The annual CICPE reflects China’s strategic focus on boosting domestic consumption while remaining an essential player in global trade. This year’s event draws participation from hundreds of international companies, further illustrating China's intent to remain integrated with global markets despite headwinds from geopolitical and economic pressures.
With its strong economic fundamentals and policy consistency, China continues to position itself as a reliable partner in global trade, aiming to maintain momentum in foreign direct investment and cross-border commerce. The country’s message at the Hainan expo reinforces its stance on global economic cooperation, even as protectionist policies and geopolitical frictions rise elsewhere.
