Chipotle Mexican Grill revealed on Thursday, March 10, that it would be adding Pollo Asado to its menu. The food item will be offered for a limited time in the United States and Canada.
According to CNBC, this is the first time that Chipotle is adding a new chicken option to its menu since the restaurant has been founded in 1993. The only other chicken food item at the restaurant is its Adobo chicken which is also the cheapest and best-selling meat offering.
Chipotle's Pollo Asado has finally been rolled out after a successful trial that was carried out in November last year. It is made with grilled chicken served with peppers, chopped cilantro, garlic, guajillo peppers, and fresh lime.
The new dish is an entree and will be sold for $9.11 in the U.S. and noted to be $.65 cents more expensive compared to the regular standard chicken option. Chipotle carried out the testing of Pollo Asado in its locations in Sacramento and Cincinnati.
Apparently, the trial has been successful, as proven by sales and feedback. It was said that test results for the Pollo Asado and its new smoked brisket have both been very positive, with the latter becoming Chipotle's top-selling menu in its recent history.
"Chicken is easily our most popular protein, with many of our most loyal Chipotle customers ordering it the majority of the time," Chipotle's chief marketing officer, Chris Brandt, said in a press release. "We are thrilled to introduce fans to another flavor of chicken that brings a whole new dimension to any Chipotle order and will certainly be a crowd-pleaser."
Pollo Asado will be sold in Chipotle restaurants along with the permanent food items. It can be purchased in the store, via delivery, online and mobile. The Mexcian Grill is known for releasing menus for a short time, and this new chicken option will not be staying for long as well.
Finally, to celebrate the addition of Pollo Asado to the menu, Chipotle will waive delivery fees on orders of the said dish. This offer is applicable to purchases in the U.S. made through the Chipotle app and the restaurant's website from March 14 to March 20. In Canada, the same offer is available from March 13 to March 20.
