Nexon, a Japanese-South Korean game developer and Elektra, a Mexican retail chain giant are now accepting Bitcoin. It was reported that the two companies have added a crypto payment option for transactions.
Elektra is one of the biggest grocery chains in Mexico and it is now allowing customers to pay in Bitcoin in place of fiat currencies. The company has teamed up with BitPay for the processing of crypto payments, as per CryptoPotato.
With its move to accept crypto payments, the company has become the very first retail store in Mexico to allow Bitcoin for payment of purchases. Elekta is even offering a 20% discount for customers who will be paying in Bitcoin (BTC). The discount promotion is only available until the end of this month.
To assure customers that it is safe to pay in cryptocurrencies, the Mexican retail giant said that they will be issuing refunds for returns or cancellations even after the completion of a BTC payment. Elektra will be giving out refunds in Mexican pesos and it will be the same amount paid during the transaction.
Then again, Elektra did not forget to mention that there are still risks when dealing with crypto. It warned customers that the company would not be held accountable for any losses, scams, or mismanagements in their accounts.
“The user accepts and recognizes that the access, use, and security of his wallet is the sole responsibility of the user and at no time is Elektra, nor will be responsible for the access, use, and security of the user’s wallet,” the company stated.
At any rate, Nexon America Inc., a subsidiary of NEXON Co. Ltd., has also jumped on the bandwagon and offering crypto payment options. This scheme will allow players to buy in-game items using digital currencies. Similar to Elekta, the game developer also partnered with BitPay so it can start accepting crypto payments.
“Although Nexon America’s decision to accept cryptocurrency payments is unrelated to the bitcoin holdings of NEXON Co., Ltd., this feature reflects the sophistication of our players and their comfort with non-fiat currencies,” Nexon Co. Ltd president and chief executive officer, Owen Mahoney, said in a press release.
Kenny Chang, Nexon America general manager, added, “Nexon listens closely to feedback from our players, including the many who have requested we include cryptocurrencies as a form of in-game payment.”
