CD Projekt Red has been focused on perfecting “Cyberpunk 2077” for several years now. But developers recently revealed that they are still undecided whether or not to allow players to customize the protagonist’s name.
“Cyberpunk 2077” is based on Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop game titled “Cyberpunk 2020.” CD Projekt Red is retaining most of the gameplay elements in the upcoming video game. For one, the title is set in a fictional Californian location called Night City in the future.
During the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2018, the developers unveiled the most comprehensive gameplay trailer they have had since “Cyberpunk 2077” was announced in 2012. This proves that CD Projekt Red has achieved a lot of progress. However, there is one tiny detail they have yet to resolve.
Over the weekend, CD Projekt Red responded to a fan on Twitter who asked if V is actually a street name and, if that’s the case, there will be an option to personalize the character’s name. The developer responded by saying, “As for now the character's name is V, but this is something we’re still debating.”

V was first previewed in the “Cyberpunk 2077” E3 2018 trailer. Players will be assuming his character in the upcoming game, which developers have described as a “true RPG” title.
Meanwhile, several other “Cyberpunk 2077” gameplay details were recently confirmed. CD Projekt Red writer Stanislaw Swiecicki was interviewed by the Italian publication Multiplayer and shared some important details last week.
Swiecicki confirmed that a dynamic weather system is an essential part of the “Cyberpunk 2077” gameplay, which was also notably featured in CD Projekt Red’s “The Witcher 3.” The video game writer also said full day and night cycles will be experienced in the game as the developers want to show that “dark, dystopian future” setting can still be achieved even with the sun shining down in Night City.
Gameplay details for “Cyberpunk 2077” have been revealed one by one since E3 2018. With that, many are speculating that the game’s official release might be approaching.
Developers were clear about the release date during their events at E3 2018. They promised not to announce a specific release date and not to open a pre-order page until they are confident that “Cyberpunk 2077” is going gold.
Meanwhile, fans might recall that a leak was shared through NeoGAF in March 2017 suggesting that 2019 is CD Projekt Red’s target release date for an upcoming game that’s supposed to be “Cyberpunk 2077.” The document is related to the company’s grant funding from the Polish government so the given timeframe is a substantial detail. However, it was also noted that CD Projekt Red can be allowed to petition for an extension of their deadline.
