Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) and local ship part supplier, HI AIR Korea Co., have developed a storage technology for carbon dioxide emitted by ship engines.
The technology will help ships comply with environmental regulations by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), DSME said.
The IMO aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from ships worldwide from 2008 levels by over 30 percent by 2025 and by at least 50 percent by 2050.
DSME intends to commercialize the technology to address the increasing demand for eco-friendly ships.
