A trademark application for Mercedes-AMG's C 53 model has been recently filed. But the automaker maintains that the release of the actual vehicle could still be a few years away.
Mercedes-AMG’s parent company, Daimler, has already filed an application to trademark the “C 53” branding to the World Intellectual Property Organization, AutoGuide first reported. And as expected, many took it as a clear hint that the companies are gearing up for the announcement and release of their next vehicle.
Now, this could mean a couple of things. According to AutoBlog, the registration of the “C 53” branding might signal the release of an all-new model that lands right between the AMG C 43 and AMG C 63 vehicles. But there is also a chance that the rumored C 53 could be a refresh model replacing the current C 43 line.
Mercedes-AMG is yet to confirm the arrival of the vehicle, let alone its specifications. But both reports have several speculations on what to expect from the C 53, including a 3.0-liter single turbo engine. There might also be very few changes in its design as the rumor mill suspects the C 53 to simply don chrome accents, particularly on its tailpipes.
The arrival of a C 53 AMG is not far from becoming a reality, especially considering the reported trademark application. So the more important question now is when it will be showcased to the world, which Mercedes hints is not happening anytime soon.
“Anything is technically possible, but there is no consideration at this stage for a 53 powertrain for the C-Class,” Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific public relations and product communications manager Jerry Stamoulis explained to GoAuto. “The 43 package is enough for this vehicle, it’s a lot lighter than an E-Class, I think it does everything that you want a C43 to do, so it’s probably the right package for that car right now.”
