‘Disenchanted’ is an upcoming sequel to 2007’s ‘Enchanted’ set ten years after the events of the first film. It will find Amy Adams’ Giselle questioning her relationship with Patrick Dempsey’s Robert inadvertently causing chaos in both the real world and in the kingdom of Andalasia.
According to the Independent, the upcoming sequel to 2007’s live-action/animated musical comedy film featuring Adams as a naïve princess-to-be swept away to real world New York City will be set ten years in the future. In the original film directed by Kevin Lima, Adams’ Giselle ends up choosing a regular man as the man of her dreams instead of an actual prince.
In the planned follow-up, Giselle questions her relationship with Dempsey’s Robert and if she really is the right man for her. In the process, she accidently triggers chaos in both the real world and the lives of everyone in the animated kingdom of Andalasia. Adams’ attachment to the sequel is yet to be confirmed.
According to Hit Fix, Adam Shankman is in negotiations to take over as the new director with Disney eyeing summer 2017 as the start of production. Anne Fletcher of ‘The Proposal’ fame was originally attached to helm the film when it was first announced.
Jessie Nelson, J. David Stern, and David N. Weiss are set to prepare the new screenplay with Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld attached to produce. Sunil Perkash will be executive producing.
According to Box Office Mojo, the first film was a commercial success earning $340.48 worldwide on a production budget of $85 million. It was also well-received by critics and was nominated for three Best Original Song nominations at the 80th Academy Awards. It was also the first Disney film distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures instead of Buena Vista Pictures Distribution.
The first film starred Amy Adams as Giselle, Patrick Dempsey as Robert, James Marsden as Prince Edward, Idina Menzel as Nancy Tremaine, Timothy Spall as Nathaniel, and Susan Sarandon as Queen Narissa.
‘Disenchanted’ is an upcoming fantasy-comedy film intended as the sequel to 2007’s ‘Enchanted’. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters in the U.S. on 2018. It is produced by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Josephson Entertainment, and Right Coast Productions.
