‘Doctor Who’ season 10’s episode 6, titled “Extremis,” is set to follow the Doctor as he is forced to investigate an ancient book with deadly text in the Vatican’s ancient library after the Earth is plagued by corpse-like monks.
The synopsis for episode 6 posted on TV Buzer reads, “In the Haereticum - the Vatican's secret library of blasphemy - there is an ancient book known only as The Veritas. Throughout history, anyone who has ever read it has immediately taken their own life.
Now a new translation is online, and the danger is spreading. The Vatican appeals to the Doctor (Peter Capaldi). Will he read The Veritas? But can even the Doctor survive the ultimate truth?”
According to Cartermatt, the upcoming episode is set to follow the Doctor as he is forced by the Pope to read an ancient text called The Veritas, found in the Vatican’s forbidden library. The Veritas is known to take the life of anyone who has ever read the ancient book. The Doctor will have to face the ultimate truth, with his own life on the line.
Episode 6’s plot seems to be something coming out of a Dan Brown novel. It will be interesting to see mysteries unfold as the Doctor may get a glimpse of Heaven or hell.
According to Metro, Joseph Long is set to take on the role as the Pope. The Italian-English actor has appeared on several BBC television productions including ‘Ashes to Ashes,’ ‘Spooks,’ ‘EastEnders,’ and the pilot episode of ‘Sherlock.’ He also worked on film such as director Peter Hopkins’ ‘The Life and Death of Peter Sellers,’ which was adapted from the life of English comedian Peter Sellers.
It is unknown whether the Doctor will regain his sight following the ordeal in the previous episode, titled “Oxygen.” The Doctor saved Bill (Pearl Mackie) after she was exposed to the vacuum of space but lost his sight as a consequence. He was seemingly healed by the end of the episode but when he removed his glasses, he admitted that he was still blind.
The upcoming episode is the first in a trilogy that introduced villainous corpse-like monks plaguing the Earth. The Doctor will be summoned to the heart of the Vatican in order to investigate The Veritas. The Doctor will have to race against time following the book’s leakage on the internet, which puts millions of lives in danger.
Writer Steven Moffat teased, “This is a proper mad one… It was my last chance to see how far you can bend this show before it breaks.”
‘Doctor Who’ season 10’s episode 6, titled “Extremis,” is scheduled to air on BBC One on May 20, 2017. It was directed by Daniel Nettheim and written by Steven Moffat. It will be followed by episode 7, titled "The Pyramid at the End of the World," directed by and scheduled to be released on May 27.
