On top of debating whether “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 will ever see the light of day, fans might never be on the same side when it comes to who Natsuo will end up marrying. The love story of Natsuo and Hina has already been a very complicated one from the start, even before they became step-siblings.
Natsuo was studying at the high school where Hina was teaching, but they still made a bold attempt to make their relationship work. Even after their heartbreaking split in season 1, many are still rooting for them. However, a fan theory offers an interesting explanation of why that might never be the endgame of the series.
‘Domestic Girlfriend’ season 2 plot: Is there a chance for Hina and Natsuo to reconcile?
Redditor u/Aryionius suggested that the story arc for Hina and Natsuo’s romance has already served its purpose, and both characters have developed individually after the breakup. The fans argued that it seems counterproductive for the series creator Kei Sasuga to bring them back together after the progress they have achieved.
First, it is important to note that so many things have happened in the manga series, as it is close to having its 260th chapter at this point. Redditor u/Aryionius also mentioned that their theory was made after reading up to 215 chapters of the manga. This theory is plausible, especially considering the status of Rui and Natsuo’s relationship in that part of the story.
If the anime will ever get “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 or more installments, anime-only fans will see Natsuo eventually reciprocating Rui’s feelings. However, their fate as the ultimate couple is still not sealed yet. Rui decided to break up with Natsuo, but that decision feels more temporary compared to how things ended between Natsuo and Hina.

In Rui and Natsuo’s latest moment together, it was made obvious that they have an even bigger chance to be together again. However, with Natsuo getting back on his passion for writing and Rui being far away, Hina is his main support system right now. Overall, the debate on whether Natsuo will end up with Hina or Rui is still not settled in the manga, so there is no way it would be answered in “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 as well.
