The coronavirus pandemic continues to hit countries around the world, with the United States taking the hardest hit in cases and in deaths. A recent report would hit President Donald Trump a lot closer as his own personal valet is revealed to test positive for the coronavirus.
CNN reports that a member of the US Navy who is also Trump’s valet has tested positive for coronavirus. Usually, the President’s valets are part of an elite unit in the military that is dedicated to serving under the President and the First Family. Trump was reportedly upset upon receiving the news which led to getting tested again by the White House physician, upon concerns of possible exposure to the virus.
The White House also released a statement confirming that one of the President’s staff in the White House tested positive for the virus. “We were recently notified by the White House Medical Unit that a member of the United States Military, who works on the White House campus, has tested positive for the Coronavirus...The President and Vice President have since tested negative for the virus and remain in great health,” said deputy White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley.
Trump, Mike Pence, and senior White House staff members who interact with them are tested for the Coronavirus every week. However, testing negative and not exhibiting symptoms is still not a sure way to spread the virus around, thus the need for social distancing.
Recently, Trump also talked to the press in the Oval Office, saying that the coronavirus pandemic is the worst attack on the country. Trump explained that the pandemic was worse than the attack on Pearl Harbor and worse than the 9/11 incident. “And it should’ve been stopped. Could’ve been stopped at the source. Could’ve been stopped in China. It should’ve been stopped right at the source. And it wasn’t,” said Trump.
When asked about whether the pandemic was a supposed “act of war,” Trump said no, and instead referred to it as an invisible enemy and the outbreak in the United States as a war.
The President has since suggested that China was to blame for the pandemic as it originated in the region of Wuhan in December 2019. However, the state government in Beijing responded that the United States is trying to distract the public from its own mismanagement of the pandemic, which has often been criticized from both sides.
