Since leaving the White House, former President Donald Trump has been residing in his Mar-a-Lago resort full time with his family. The resort and residence of the former president have recently been partially closed down due to a COVID-19 outbreak that occurred.
Several people familiar with the matter confirmed that Mar-a-Lago had been partially closed down until further notice due to the coronavirus outbreak having occurred. Some employees have decided to self-quarantine out of caution. It is not yet clear which parts of the Mar-a-Lago club were closed down as well as how it has affected the Trumps and the extent of the outbreak.
Mar-a-Lago was where the first known exposure of the virus to Trump over a year ago when a Brazilian official tested positive after visiting the resort. The said official also posed for a photo with the then-president and also attended a family member’s birthday party.
The Trump White House was also considered a hotspot for COVID-19 during the former president’s term, and Trump himself also contracted COVID-19 in October following his debate with Joe Biden. The former president got vaccinated prior to leaving the White House in January.
Trump and his officials have been known to flout CDC guidelines in slowing down the spread of COVID-19 by refusing to wear face masks and holding large events indoors. Trump himself has also refused to wear face masks when out in public.
Meanwhile, in other related news, Trump was impeached and then acquitted for incitement of insurrection following the January 6 riots at the Capitol. A pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol, seeking to derail the formal certification of electoral votes that went to Biden. The mob was looking to target House and Senate Democrats, including Vice President Mike Pence.
Former acting DC US Attorney Michael Sherwin said that the former president may be “culpable” for the insurrection and revealed that federal investigators are looking at all the evidence gathered surrounding the insurrection at the Capitol. Sherwin also revealed that charges of sedition might be made against the rioters that were arrested.
“It’s unequivocal that Trump was the magnet that brought people to DC on the 6th,” said Sherwin.
