U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled for his annual physical examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center this Friday, according to the White House. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Trump, 79, will visit the facility outside Washington for a meeting and to address U.S. troops, adding that he will also “stop by for his routine yearly checkup.” Following the visit, Trump may travel to the Middle East, where negotiations involving the U.S., Israel, and Hamas continue over a Gaza hostage-for-ceasefire deal.
As the oldest person to assume the U.S. presidency, Trump’s health remains under close public scrutiny. The concern has heightened following reports about former President Joe Biden’s health issues and the physical demands of the presidency. Earlier this year, in July, the White House revealed that Trump had swelling in his lower legs and bruising on his right hand. Photos circulating at the time showed visible discoloration and swelling.
Dr. Sean Barbabella, Trump’s physician, confirmed the leg swelling was caused by chronic venous insufficiency, a common and non-serious condition in older adults. He added that the bruising on Trump’s hand resulted from minor tissue irritation due to frequent handshakes and regular aspirin use, part of Trump’s cardiovascular health regimen.
Despite public speculation, the White House has maintained that Trump’s health remains stable, though it has not disclosed specific treatment details for his leg condition. During his last comprehensive exam in April, results indicated a normal heart rhythm and no major health concerns. Known for his fondness for fast food and long work hours, Trump continues to draw interest over his stamina and medical fitness as he leads the nation and manages a demanding global agenda.
