“Dragon Ball Super: Broly” is nearing its release date and it’s creating a lot of waves in the social media atmosphere. And since the team behind Toei Animation uploaded another teaser clip for the film, the hype has gotten more and more intense.
There is a lot to digest in the new trailer of “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” even though most of it is only action sequences. For instance, just by looking at the characters alone, fans can make an educated guess as to how the story will unfold. One such example is Broly and the lack of jewelry by the end of the clip.
For the uninitiated, the absence of these jewelry signifies that the character has lost all control. It’s no secret by now that the upcoming film is heavily inspired by “Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan.” In this, Broly killed his father after freeing himself of the bonds imposed by the jewels. Although it’s still unclear if this is going to transition in the film, there are a lot of nods to the original version that “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” has added into its storyline.
First is the blind left eye of Paragus, Broly’s father. In the original film, the injury was caused by Broly himself during one of his uncontrollable outbursts. The first teaser of “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” showed that Paragus’ left eye is indeed blind.
Second is the fight sequence between Goku and Broly in the newly released trailer of “Dragon Ball Super: Broly”. To be precise, it’s the one where Broly grabbed Goku by the head, slammed him onto a glacier, and dragged his face across the ice. This is clearly a nod to the original movie although it was actually Gohan on the receiving end of this beatings and the Saiyan’s face was dragged across a building rather than a glacier, Comicbook reported.
Third is the presence of Frieza and Chelye. In the first film, Frieza’s motivation for blowing up Planet Vegeta was because he feared the power of Broly. And rightly so. The latest teaser clip of “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” already showed that even though Goku was in Super Saiyan God form, Broly had no problem manhandling the protagonist with his base power alone.
It would be interesting to see how “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” will affect the animated series moving forward as it’s expected that whatever happens in the film will have an effect in “Dragon Ball Super.” Fans have already expressed their desire to watch the film as evidenced by the view count on the latest trailer that was released.
Even though the clip is only a day old, it’s already been viewed 2 million times. As for when “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” will be released, Toei Animation scheduled it on Dec. 14 in Japan and Jan 16 in the United States.
