It would seem that Microsoft is really betting on the power-efficiency of the “Edge” to convince users that it should be their web browser of choice over other, more popular choices. The software giant had already pressed this point back in June, showing test footage that its web browser consumed battery life at a slower rate than “Chrome” or “Firefox,” but it hasn’t had the impact that it was hoping for. Clearly, Microsoft hasn’t given up on this line of attack yet.
After Microsoft essentially shredded its competitors in the web browser arena with the exhibition it showcased back in June, “Opera” and “Google” have both struck back in their own ways, Tech Times reports. “Opera” did its own test to prove that its browser is more battery-efficient while Google’s last “Chrome” update also addressed the issues that Microsoft brought up.
Even so, Microsoft is convinced that “Edge” is still the better performer when it comes to efficiency, releasing yet another video to prove its point. In the report that the tech giant released with regards to the test that it conducted, the web browsers were put through their paces using the same devices and streaming the same online content.
"The Microsoft Windows team measured the time it took four identical Surface Book laptops to run fully through their batteries while streaming video from Netflix,” the report reads. “The results were recorded with a camera and a time lapse was made available publicly.”
According to the results, “Edge” had a 23 percent advantage over “Opera” in terms of battery consumption, 45 percent over “Chrome,” and 69 percent over “Firefox.” Aside from the purported superiority of Microsoft’s web browser against its competitors, it’s also possible that the Windows 10 Anniversary Update could have played a role in giving “Edge” that extra boost in efficiency.
