Two of the biggest PC games distribution platforms have free games offer this week. Over at Epic Games Store, gaming fans can experience colonizing Mars through the simulation title “Surviving Mars.” Meanwhile, the popular post-apocalyptic “Metro 2033” is also available at no cost on Steam.
Colonize the Red Planet with ‘Surviving Mars’ for free
Colonizing Mars has been one of the biggest goals for humanity. And while that has yet to become a reality, PC gamers can get a simulated experience through the city building game “Surviving Mars.”
It is currently featured as Epic Store’s free game of the week, so fans can get the base game without paying anything for a limited time. “Surviving Mars,” developed by Haemimont Games and published by Paradox Interactive,” lets players assume the role of a Mars colonist tasked to build a sustainable city in the Red Planet.
“Surviving Mars” gained popularity after launching in 2018 as it offers a fresh take on the city-building simulation genre of video games. Instead of worrying about metropolitan planning and design, players will face new challenges as the game presents Mars as a “planet not fit for human life.” Habitable structures will have to be placed inside space domes while also maintain research facilities.
While not set on Earth, “Surviving Mars” still features some real-world issues that can also affect the humans in the game. For one, an overworked scientist can develop alcoholism, and it is one issue players will have to address as a colonist away from their home planet.
The base game is free on Epic Games Store, while the “Surviving Mars” Season Pass is currently available with a 50% discount, so it only costs $6.99 for the time being. The offer runs until March 18 only, and an Epic Games account will be required.
Steam offers ‘Metro 2033’ at a 100% discount
4A Games’ “Metro” series is one of the most recognizable post-apocalyptic video game franchises. New video game fans will now have a chance to try its first installment without spending anything. All players will need is a PC and a Steam account.
The game is set in Moscow and will subject players to underground survival. The survival horror, as the title suggests, features missions that take place in subway tunnels. Assuming the character of Artyom, fans will have to face alien and human enemies to survive.
“Metro 2033” may be turning 12 years old next week, but it is a good chance for new fans to get familiar with the series. 4A Games is going to launch free upgrades for its second sequel, “Metro Exodus,” with full ray tracing support on PC. Steam offers the game that started the series at a 100% discount until March 15.
