Errol Spence Jr managed to take Shawn Porter’s belt yesterday after a grueling and thrilling 12-round match. While the former was the favorite to win coming into the bout, the latter surprised everyone with his rough and erratic fighting style.
Unfortunately, Errol Spence Jr landed a devastating left hook on Porter’s chin on the 11th round, dropping him on the canvas and proving to be the deciding factor in the judges’ scorecards. It was a split decision with two judges giving the Truth 116-11, while the third gave it to Porter 115-112.
Errol Spence Jr has been saying he wanted to knock Porter out but failed in his endeavor as Porter proved too fast and unpredictable through most of the fight. Porter himself got massive praise from both fans and analysts alike as he made sure that the fight was exciting from start to finish.
Errol Spence Jr and Shawn Porter praised by stars
Indeed, a lot of people – experts included – are hailing the match as 2019’s Fight of the Year. And rightly so. Porter and Errol Spence Jr put on a show for the 16 thousand fans who were in attendance and for everyone watching the stream at home.
UFC’s Daniel Cormier was one of the many who were entertained by the fight. Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns also has a similar sentiment saying that the match was everything a boxing fan can hope for. But now that Errol Spence Jr has two belts, he has turned his attention to his next opponent.
Errol Spence Jr unlikely to fight Terrence Crawford next
The undefeated fighter has once again called out boxing legend Manny Pacquiao. However, it was Danny Garcia who went up the ring and challenged Errol Spence Jr. Garcia, of course, is not the name that people wants. The fans and analysts want Terrence Crawford next, Bad Left Hook reported.
Considered as one of the toughest and deadliest welterweights at the moment, Crawford can give Errol Spence Jr a lot of trouble. The problem here is that PBC and FOX are likely uninterested in striking a deal with ESPN and Top Rank since they have more welterweight names that they can market that would create a lot of headlines.
Sure, both entities are working together for the Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury match. But the heavyweight division isn’t as loaded as the welterweight. This isn’t to say that Crawford and Errol Spence Jr will not be fighting in the future. It’s just difficult to set the fight up right now since PBC and FOX can just pick other welterweights under them and not bother with the headache. So prepare for Spence and Garcia next. After that, perhaps the Truth will face up against Pacquiao.
