Shopping on eBay is something that a lot of people on the internet absolutely love to do. Now, Facebook users can get updated details on what deals are available on the platform via the eBay Daily Deals feature on Marketplace. It’s worth noting that although customers can shop for items on the app itself, the transaction will need to be finished by going to the auction site’s website.
In a statement to The Verge, a representative of Facebook notes that this is basically a test to see if anyone would like to shop for products on sale while using Marketplace. This is a rather odd tone to take on the matter of e-commerce since what kind of customer would not like to shop for affordable items?
“We're conducting a test to determine if people are interested in shopping for discounted products when they visit Marketplace,” the representative said.
Right now, the feature is only available in select countries with a limited number of users. As such, there is no guarantee that it is going to make it to the general market in the future. Then again, with the number of people shopping on eBay who also use Facebook, it would not be surprising if the feature does end up being available to everyone.
As TechCrunch points out, Marketplace itself is the social network’s version of Craigslist. By partnering with eBay, Facebook is working towards expanding its e-commerce empire in a likely attempt at cutting into Amazon’s space somewhere down the road.
It’s no secret that Mark Zuckerberg’s ultimate goal is to insert his influence in every facet of people’s lives, which is why he is working so hard to bring internet connection to as many people as possible. Doing so would allow him to create a monopoly in practically every market available, or at least carve a substantial piece for himself.
