Far Cry New Dawn.Captain Eggcellent/YouTube

Ubisoft can say this much about the recent trailer for “Far Cry: New Dawn,” the direct follow-up to its latest numbered installment in the franchise; it has lit the fire of excitement within fans. The upcoming title features so many firsts for the series that it’s difficult not to feel the hype. It might even pose an actual threat to “Far Cry: Blood Dragon,” which is widely regarded as one of the best in the franchise.

As Forbes notes, the twist that the “Far Cry: New Dawn” trailer clip below features is something that many who played “Far Cry 5” might not have expected [Heavy Spoilers Ahead]. Basically, the protagonist will need to team up with Father Joseph Seed to fight against the new bad guys. These bad guys, however, just happens to be women and black women, at that.

This could either be Ubisoft trying to balance things out after featuring a crazy white guy as the villain in the main game or it could just be part of a good storytelling strategy. In any case, this is also the first time that a new game with direct ties to a previous narrative in the franchise is released. This is just one of the many things about “Far Cry: New Dawn” that makes it so interesting.

Now, it’s worth pointing out that this is not a numbered installment in the franchise. It’s basically something of a spin-off, much like “Far Cry: Blood Dragon” was. For those who don’t know, “Blood Dragon” was basically an 80s sci-fi FPS that many fans regard as the best game in the franchise. If “Far Cry: New Dawn” lives up to the trailer’s promise, it could even surpass that gem.

So, when will “Far Cry: New Dawn” be available to play? The game is set to hit the market on Feb. 15 for all major platforms except the Nintendo Switch.
