It is going to be four years since Square Enix announced “Final Fantasy VII: Remake” in June. Hopes are high that the upcoming E3 will feature the announcement of new details about the game. Furthermore, some are hoping that it will include a release date happening this year.
Major video game companies have previously confirmed they will not hold their own press event at E3 2019 but Square Enix will not be joining that list. It is easy to understand why Square Enix would want to maximize the E3 stage this year as it promised a good list of upcoming games within the coming year. And “Final Fantasy VII: Remake” is one of the most anticipated presentations in June.
As said in the company’s financial briefing for the fiscal year 2019 Q3 held earlier this month, it expects to reach an operating income target of ¥40‐50 billion (around $361.6 million to $452 million) by the Q3 of FY 2020 that falls in October to December of this year. Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda was asked how they hope to achieve and said the “lineup [of upcoming games they] currently have planned” would make it happen. The next question is whether “Final Fantasy VII: Remake” is part of that lineup.
As expected, Matsuda refused to provide specifics about their Q3 FY 2020 plans. He said, “I cannot go into any detail at the moment, but I believe we will be able to make various announcements in the lead-up to this year’s E3.” If “Final Fantasy VII: Remake” release will not happen in 2019, at least, it is quite certain that the company will make more announcements (possibly even release new trailers) in June.
And if “Final Fantasy VII: Remake” is really not in the cards yet for 2019, video game fans can also hope for the launching of Square Enix’s “Avengers” offering. “Final Fantasy VII: Remake” is directed by Tetsuya Nomura, who also helmed “Kingdom Hearts 3.”
