There’s no denying that Google Chrome is the biggest web browser in the world. However, Mozilla’s new Firefox Quantum offering could do a lot to change that situation. Although it’s only available in Beta right now, reviewers who have tried the new browser are absolutely gushing over it. Users will need to wait until November 11th to get the final product.
Anyone who wants to try the beta version of Firefox Quantum can do so at Mozilla’s website right now. It’s free and also provides users with the ability to send feedback in case they encounter any issues.
With regards to how it performs, the company boasted about the increased browsing speed of Quantum in a blog post. Based on tests, it would seem that the new Firefox is twice faster than the version from last year.
“One simple way of estimating browser performance is with Speedometer 2.0, a (still-in-development) benchmark that simulates modern web applications. Results vary based on the computer and apps you’re actively using, but one thing that’s relatively consistent is that Firefox Quantum is about 2X faster than Firefox was a year ago,” the blog post reads.
Aside from the speed of the new browser, reviewers are also impressed with Quantum’s other features. Digital Trends notes the impressive minimalist approach of the browser, which actually makes Chrome seem outdated, by comparison.
The logo is more exciting and alive now, and the browser itself looks slick. These and more are apparently the result of something called the “Photon Project,” which involved researching what modern users have come to expect from their browsers.
Based on the new design, the more efficient interface, and the fitting look, it seems the researchers have done their job well. The Firefox Quantum feels both relevant and appealing, which could help it match up to Chrome.
