Ford is recalling 37,300 Mustang Mach-E, Bronco Sport, and Maverick models due to a defect in the front wiper motor that could result in failure during operation.
Ford Recalls 37,300 Mach-E, Bronco, and Maverick Models
A defective front wiper motor is the reason for the recall of specific Mustang Mach-E, Maverick, and Bronco Sport models manufactured by Ford. Some 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E and Bronco Sport models, as well as some 2023–2024 Mavericks, are part of the recalled inventory.
More than 37,300 Ford Mach-E, Bronco Sport, and Maverick vehicles were recalled in a notice sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on August 9, 2024.
Water Intrusion Leads to Wiper Motor Failure
After customers complained that their Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles' windshield wipers weren't working, Ford launched an inquiry. The corporation found that the windshield wiper motor failed because water got into it.
After Ford sent the component back to the manufacturer, they determined that the problem stemmed from insufficient sealant between the gear housing and cover.
According to manufacturing data, the dates of occurrence were June 18 and September 1, 2023, and they were involved in the incident. Assembled in June were the suspicious wiper motors for Maverick and Mach-E models, while Bronco Sport and Mavericks received the September components.
Per Electrek, the manufacturer has identified 3,603 Mustang Mach-E, 15,087 Bronco Sport, and 18,681 Maverick vehicles that may have been fitted with the offending engine. However, only about 5% of people actually have this flaw.
The number of warranty reports involving confirmed water damage to the wiper motor has reached 81 as of July 14, 2024, according to Ford.
Dealers Will Inspect and Replace Defective Wiper Motors
According to Ford, 37,371 models could be impacted. Dealers will provide free inspection and replacement of the wiper motor. The anticipated mailing date for owner letters is August 26, 2024.
