Forever21's parent company, Authentic Brands Group, has partnered with the Singapore-headquartered SHEIN fashion company. This agreement is a strategic one for the American fast fashion retailer.
As per CNBC, the deal expanded the business relationship of Forever21 and SHEIN. Through their cooperation, the two firms will start selling a co-branded clothing line.
This means that customers and fashion enthusiasts will find both brands under one roof from now on. The collaborative items are set to be sold in an online marketplace.
Fashionable Fusion - From Rivals to Partners
Forever21 and SHEIN already revealed their team-up earlier this year by establishing a joint venture. Thus, the new agreement is another contract that further deepened their association.
The co-branded clothing line is their latest project and is slated for official launch soon. Under the agreement, the Chinese fashion company will design, produce, and distribute the co-branded Forever21 clothes and accessories.
It was mentioned that these will be mainly sold via SHEIN's website. Aside from the trendy outfits, they will offer other categories such as sportswear, swimwear, and activewear.
For SHEIN, this cooperation with Forever21 will help improve its reputation, especially after facing lawsuits for various claims, including copyright infringement, forced labor, and violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act or RICO. Freshening up its reputation is also part of its preparation for a possible IPO next year.
Efforts to Boost Presence in the New Generation of Retail Business
SHEIN and Forever21's common goal for the collaboration is to boost their sales. The latter will also benefit from the former's digital capabilities and vast customer base to improve its e-commerce and online footprint. In addition, the US-based retailer wants to regain the relevancy it once had and win over the younger generation of customers.
"SHEIN's innovative approach to engaging with consumers gives them the ability to deliver trends at speed," Authentic Brands' founder, chairman, and chief executive officer, Jamie Salter, said in a press release. "With an evolving retail landscape, where digital interaction has become the cornerstone of e-commerce, SHEIN has led the way in redefining how brands connect with consumers."
He added, "We are excited to partner with SHEIN, as this collaboration perfectly fits into our distribution strategy for the brand's new key markets."
SHEIN's executive chairman, Donald Tang, commented, "We are thrilled to bring the renowned Forever 21 brand to SHEIN customers using our manufacturing capabilities and online store. Forever 21 and SHEIN share a mission to deliver products that our customers love at an incredible value."
