It seems HBO is not yet done with Westeros.
The premium cable channel just confirmed that it has closed deals with four different writers in doing not just one, but multiple spinoffs of the fantasy drama series. Variety said the four writers are Max Borenstein (“Kong: Skull Island”), Jane Goldman (“Kingsman: The Golden Circle”), Brian Helgeland (“Legend”), and Carly Wray (“Mad Men,” “The Leftovers”), with Goldman and Wray working separately with “Game Of Thrones” author George RR Martin. Showrunners and executive producers Dan Weiss and David Benioff are said to be attached to the spinoffs, but will not be doing any writing duties.
A spokesperson clarified that there will not be a timeline attached to the spinoffs, although the New York Times think that the earliest a new season of “Game Of Thrones” would come out would most likely be in 2019. The representative added, "We’ll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in.”
Meanwhile, the Internet is ripe with theories on what could the plots the writers will explore in the upcoming spinoffs. The Guardian said one plot could be the content of Martin’s “long-gestating sixth book in the A Song of Fire and Ice saga,” travelling as far back as the formative years of incestuous twins Cersei and Jaime. Another popular plot, Buzzfeed noted, is the period of the Targaryens, and the consequences of King Viserys I Targayren’s decision to hail his daughter Rhaenyra as his heir to the throne.
