The anticipation of the return of HBO’s fantasy drama series comes in the excitement over confirming theories concerning the fate of Westeros, the Iron Throne, and the contenders for it.
One of the theories surrounding “Game Of Thrones” Season 7 is the possibility of actor (and DJ) Kristian Nairn’s return to the series. Towards the end of Season 6, we saw Nairn, who plays the oversized but lovable Hodor, gave up his life for Bran when the White Walkers attack the cave they were settling in. In one of the season’s standout moment, there was a full circle moment where “Game Of Thrones” showed why Hodor only speaks one word: he was holding the very door that Bran and Meera escaped from to give them more time away from the wights. Hodor was eventually captured by the wights.
In an interview with Belfast Telegraph, he doesn’t mind returning to the show, even if it means as an “instrument of evil.” He said, "As a fan, I'm not sure I would love that. But as an actor, I would absolutely love that, and it would be so much fun to play that. But I kind of think it's nice the way it's left. There have been enough rebirth moments in “Game of Thrones.”"
But when pressed further, he replied, "I'm just going to say no, but I might be lying. I can't give anything away. I have let things slip before by accident, and I've learnt the hard way."
Meanwhile, the latest set photos HBO dropped hinted that “Game Of Thrones” will be playing out the “Azor Ahai” prophecy in the upcoming seasons. “Azor Ahai,” or the Prince that was Promised, is said to be the mythic hero Azor Ahai reborn to lead mankind to fight against the darkness, and will be wielding the sword named Lightbringer. Digital Spy said eagle-eyed fans spotted one image where Gilly (Hannah Murray) is reading a script, which read something like this:
"This legend has spread west from Asshai, and the followers of R'hllor claim that this hero was named Azor Ahai, and prophesy his return."
“Game Of Thrones” Season 7 returns on July 16.
