George W. Bush previously shared some of the biggest and most useful he has learned from his mom, Barbara Bush, during the latter’s 90th birthday in 2016.
At that time, Barbara’s children wrote essays about the former first lady. Three years later, the essays are compiled in the book “Pearls of Wisdom: Little Pieces of Advice.”
George’s excerpt detailed how Barbara taught him and his siblings how to live, love, and laugh. Barbara also taught her son how to see the irony and how to verbally joust.
“She had a doormat in our home in Houston that said, ‘Birds fly high because they take themselves lightly.’ She always took her duties seriously, like that of the first lady. But never herself,” he wrote.
Barbara’s other three sons, Jeb, Neil, and Marvin praised their late mother for teaching them how to be good parents to their own children.
“Mom has taught me to be a better parent, a better person and a better citizen,” they said.
Dorothy Koch, Barbara’s daughter, said that she feels honored to be able to tell the world that she is the daughter of Barbara.
Barbara passed away in 2018 at the age of 92 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In 1988, Barbara was diagnosed with Graves’ disease, and she also suffered from cognitive heart failure.
Following her death, George released a touching statement honoring his late mother.
“Barbara Bush was a fabulous first lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions. To us, she was so much more. Mom kept us on our toes and kept us laughing until the end. I’m a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother,” he said.
George’s father, George H. W. Bush, passed away months after Barbara’s demise. The couple was married for 73 years. Following his death, George also released a statement honoring the ex-POTUS.
“George H. W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens,” he said.
