‘Gilmore Girls’ revival on Netflix is revealed to be in “very preliminary” talks as confirmed by the streaming service’s boss Ted Sarandos. The possible return of the series may follow events after Rory’s shocking pregnancy announcement in ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life,’ which premiered on Netflix on November 2016.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos’ confirmed that the streaming giant is in “very preliminary” talks following speculation of a possible revival of the show.
The popular comedy-drama television series that debuted on The WB on October 2000 originally ran for seven seasons until its end on May 2007. A revival, titled ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,’ was considered the series’ sequel and was released by Netflix as a miniseries consisting of four episodes. Each episode followed the show’s core characters through each season of a year.
Sarandos said, “We hope [there are more installments]. We obviously loved the success of the show, fans loved how well it was done, it delivered what they hoped.” He added, "…the worst thing is to wait a couple of years for your favorite show to come back and for it to disappoint you, but they sure delivered and people were really excited about more, and we have been talking to them about the possibility of that."
The revival earned positive reviews from critics. However, the miniseries ended in a cliffhanger, with Alexis Bledel’s Rory Gilmore telling her mother Lorelai (Lauren Graham) that she was pregnant. A revival of the revival had long been in speculation and it seems that Sarandos himself has confirmed its possibility.
According to Today.com, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino revealed in a previous interview that the story of the ‘Gilmore Girls’ had already been told, putting off rumors of a possible series return. She said, "We really had a very specific journey in our minds and we fulfilled the journey… So to us, this is the piece that we wanted to do. And the whole thought about, 'Is there more, is there more, is there more?' — this has to go out into the universe now. We've got to put this to bed."
‘Gilmore Girls’ revival may return for a second run on Netflix but it is yet to be confirmed. The series follows a single mother and her daughter as they navigate life and its intricacies together.
