Tech fans who have been using Pixel smartphones will be having a great week. It was confirmed that the much-requested update for the stock camera app to support external microphones is going live as the Google Pixel 3 hits the stores.
Since the Google Pixel was first launched, it has been known to have one of the best camera technologies on a mobile device. Unfortunately, recording a video through its native camera app has its limitations. But that will change along with the retail launch of Google Pixel 3.
The stock camera app on Pixel phones only supports the use of the built-in microphone while recording videos. So to achieve better sounding videos, users needed third-party camera apps. Luckily, as consumers get their Google Pixel 3 smartphones this week, they will no longer deal with this issue. Luckily, the software update will apparently be applied to all versions of the Google Pixel device.
The confirmation came from a member of the Google Pixel Camera engineering team, who introduced himself as Isaac. “At the same time as Pixel 3 launch (October 18th), we will introduce support for Android-compatible plugged-in external microphones in the default camera app for all Pixels. I hope you all enjoy the update,” the Google employee wrote in an official Google online forum.
In other news related to the Google Pixel 3, DxOMark has yet to reveal its verdict but there are rumors that it will be somewhat underwhelming. DxOMark is an established organization trusted for its reviews of consumer-level camera products.
To be clear, the Google Pixel 3 still shows promising camera functions and image outputs based on the official unveiling event earlier this month and hands-on reviews. However, it can be recalled that the first and second Pixel devices dominated the DxOMark mobile camera rankings at the time of their respective launches. The Google Pixel 3 reportedly fell short in reclaiming the top spot.
As of this writing, DxOMark has yet to release its official review and ranking of the Google Pixel 3 camera. But earlier reports claim it will not be enough to beat the Huawei P20 series, which was given 109 — the highest score ever. People can now pre-order the Google Pixel 3 with a price starting at $799.
