Even though Google has not yet revealed anything about its plans in the smartphone-making department, there are recent reports suggesting that the company is working on adopting major design changes for the Pixel 3.

Another year means another set of Google Pixel smartphones, that is if the company intends to continue the development cycle they have shown in the past two years. If so, Google is likely to release the Pixel 3 lineup this year.

According to reports, the base Pixel 3 model is expected to sport a much bigger display by having smaller bezels. This is a technique that was made popular by Samsung and was later taken to the next level by Apple’s iPhone X.

However, according to Bloomberg’s sources, Google is not looking to adopt the entire design and will be leaving a thick bezel on the bottom edge of the smartphone. Bloomberg also reported that the incorporation of the edge-to-edge screen design onto the Pixel 3 will be one of Google’s strategies for improving the sales of their new mobile devices.

Sources who spoke with the publication added that the company is planning, as with previous models, to introduce two new smartphones in the Pixel 3 series.

However, the report continues, the bigger Pixel 3 XL will have thinner bezels on the top and both sides. The Pixel 3 XL is also expected to have the notch design that many manufacturers have applied on their Android smartphones, interestingly after the launch of the iPhone X.

Bloomberg’s report was supported by statements from unnamed sources. However, they also pointed out that this information is yet to be finalized and could be changed as the actual production of the Pixel 3 approaches.

Google was consistent with the unveiling schedules of the previous Pixel devices. While the date of the announcement of the Pixel 3 is still unknown to the public, sources have suggested that it will still happen sometime in fall.
