“HTC” is finally releasing their “Vive” VR headset in a more retail-oriented manner, meaning that customers can now just go ahead and order one, and the product will arrive a few days later. The same can’t be said about the more popular “Oculus Rift,” which takes a long time to get to customer hands. More than that though, Japan is set on creating an actual zombie arena where users of the “HTC Vive” will be able to fight virtual zombies with a real environment backdrop.
With the release of the “Vive,” the question now is whether or not people should buy the more expensive headset worth $799 or just wait for its “Facebook”-owned rival to become more accessible. As The Verge puts it, the answer entirely depends on the customer.
It’s a fact that the title pool for VR games is still really small, and many of the games that are already available are riddled with bugs, glitches, and unfinished content. However, if customers are willing to overlook those aspects because they simply must have a VR headset of their own no matter what, the “HTC Vive” can oblige.
Gamers who have no difficulty securing funds for their entertainment pleasure can also just go ahead and get the headset since it really won’t even affect them in any major way. More than that, the VR device will require substantial specs from the gaming rig that it is attached to anyway, which can cost a hefty $1,000.
In related news, a company called Zero Latency VR is launching a virtual game set in a real environment the size of a basketball court. The location of the set will be in Japan because the game was actually picked up by Japanese video game icon, Sega. The game will involve wearing VR headsets like the “HTC Vive” as well as tracking gear.
Though the system will offer several gaming modes for players to choose from, the one that is likely to be the most popular involves fighting a horde of zombies. As VentureBeat explains, the set will be mostly empty, but players will see obstacles, virtual environments and of course, rotting undead to shoot.
