The discussion surrounding “Hannibal” Season 4 has yet to die down despite the show being off the air for three and a half years. However, it seems that those involved in its creation are planning to revive the series.
Mads Mikkelsen – who plays the titular forensic psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter – recently spoke with Bloody Disgusting and revealed that they are still hoping NBC would order “Hannibal” Season 4. He also admitted that although he didn’t have any specific information, he did say that executive producer Bryan Fuller is still trying to push the next entry forward.
“I know that [Fuller] was working to get the rights to ‘Silence of the Lambs’ so he could get in there and use some of those characters for his own universe. I have a hunch that might be where we’re going,” Mikkelsen said about the possible route that “Hannibal” Season 4 might take.
As for the casts, the actor personally feels that everyone who was involved with the series will be keen to return. But before that happens, Fuller will need to convince NBC to order “Hannibal” Season 4. The show was supposedly scheduled to run for seven seasons but was ultimately canceled due to its poor rating performance.
For his part, Fuller took the news well and thanked the network for giving a home to the series. He also seems to have a solid idea what “Hannibal” Season 4 will be about as has been hinted by Hannibal writer Nick Antosca.
“I know what the idea is — I mean unless he's changed it. He had a very cool idea that we would have done had he gotten another season.“ NBC hasn’t commented about Mikkelsen’s statements yet making it difficult to speculate what the network is planning for this particular series. If NBC doesn’t greenlight “Hannibal” Season 4, then Fuller can look elsewhere to pitch his idea. Netflix and Amazon are two options that he can explore although both streaming giants appear uninterested in the series either given they didn’t snatch it up when NBC canceled it years ago.
